Donkey Kong vs Proteus

Donkey Kong;

Role; the role you play in Donkey Kong is Mario. He is the hero in this case trying to rescue the innocent. Because you play as Mario you are the hero, trying to pass level after level to save the innocent lady that is being abducted by Donkey Kong.

Choices; There are several choices needed to be made in Donkey Kong. These include, what ladder to go up, what direction/ route to take and should I jump this barrel or wait to get the hammer. All these choices are different as the can change the outcome of the game potentially making you get a high score.

Verbs; some verbs that Mario can do is walk and run along the tracks, he can jump to avoid barrels, also Mario can climb up ladders and smash through harmful objects with a hammer. But by far the most important doesn’t apply to the character but to the player, thinking.

Emotions; when playing Donkey Kong at the start I really enjoy playing it as I feel I can beat my recent highest score. After about ten minutes it starts to get very frustrating. Some emotions I feel are, excitement, anticipation, frustration, joy, anger and a sense of achievement.

Proteus;

Role; the role in Proteus isn’t clear to the player, you can’t see your character and you are exploring an island that has many different objects around it. The role is unclear as walking around the island there is nothing that stands out as an objective. You start by swimming to an island then exploring it.

Choices; There are no risk taking choices in this game as it is all peaceful and calming with low risks. One of the big choices in this game is what way should I go to explore as it is a very big island to explore with mountains, forests and oceans.

Verbs; this game is very minimal and simplistic when it comes to actions such as walking, running, climbing and swimming are the only things you can do in this game.

Emotions; when playing this game at first you are startled by what the graphics look like. When you start exploring it starts to get interesting as you don’t know what to do so you explore, emotions run high as you don’t know what to expect that where you feel exited with what might happen later on in the game. Some emotions I felt when I played this game was excitement, confusion, happiness and relaxation.

What game I liked more;
Personally I liked Proteus more. The reason for this was because it was very relaxing to play as I didn’t know what was going on but at the same time I enjoyed it. It was a sense of freedom of being able to go anywhere you wanted with no limit. It was confusing but I liked that factor as it was going into the unknown that grasped me into Proteus. Also I preferred Proteus because I wasn’t very good a Donkey Kong.

Manufacture
Manufacture is the company that makes the hardware. For example Sony, Microsoft, Apple and Nintendo.
Developers
Developers are companies that make the software. For example EA, Activation, Nintendo, Sega and Rockstar games to name a few.
Publishing
Publishers are the people who make the advisement and distribution. EA, Rockstar Games, 2K and Sony.
Retail
Retailers are the people who put the games on the shelf for people to buy. Some retailers include, Game, CEX, HMV and John Lewis to name a few.

1st Party: Uncharted 4
-Manufacture; Sony
-Development; Naughty Dog
-Publisher; Sony
This game is a first party game because Sony does the manufacturing the development and the publishing because Naughty Dog is a subsidiary company of Sony.

2nd Party: NBA 2K16
-Manufacture; Sony, Microsoft, Google and Apple
-Development; Visual Concepts
-Publisher; 2K Sports
This is a second party game because the development and the publishing is done by 2K as Visual Concepts is a company owned by 2K. The manufacture is a different company to 2K and that is why it is a second party game.

3rd Party game: Just Cause
-Manufacture; Sony and Microsoft
-Development; Avalanche Studios
-Publisher; Eidos Interactive
This is a third party game because Sony and Microsoft are there own companies and neither of them own Avalanche Studios or Eidos Interactive. Avalanche Studios and Eidos Interactive are also separate companies to one another and therefor all three companies are separate making it a third party game.

Comparing reviews from Clash Royale

Summery;

Overall reviewer A was more descriptive in all aspects apart from target audience. I think the reason for this was because review A was done by a bigger review company meaning that people looking at the review wanted to know more about it as it was a more common review company called STUFF. Where as review B was a small/ personal review where the review could speak with more freedom as he wasn't restricted to guidelines.
