UNIT 19 Plan & Pitch Audio
P1; Analysis of Radio Dramas & Moodboard
P2;
Moodboard;
In our group we discussed several different plot and story ideas. On of them was an infection on Mars. Another was crew members where stuck on a ship with the oxygen supply at critical the only way out was pods but there where to many people on the ship. In our group we decided to tie both ideas together.
There were infected people on Mars and a ship comes to save the people who are surviving on Mars. They run into problems with the infected people and go through many dangerous tasks. One of the settings as it is a Sci-Fi is Mars. The reason for this is because its a radio drama anything is possible as there is nothing visual about radio drams.

Plan and Pitch Feedback
With my planing and pitching some feedback i got was to cut down on how much i described the concept as it got to the two minute mark before i could finish what to say. Also tell the title of the story before i explain it as i got straight into it. When pitching using hand gestures and speaking with a loud voice it made my idea more clear to the audience that i was trying to sell it to.
My main issue was dragging it on to long so next time i pitch i should cut down some irrelevant information with the concept. Explain the key parts of the concept so its shorter then 2 minutes.
Feedback On Script
Some minor spelling mistakes that need to be corrected. One comment was ' The world is easily shown but you could add more detail on things you can do now'. There were several comments on the characters such as ' voices and characters fit very well it shows a lot about them'.
The conflict wasn't clear at the start but as the script progressed you could tell who the conflict was and who the agonist and protagonist is.

Our Feedback Sheet We Made;
Summarised feedback on pitch:
- What year was it set in?
- Details on characters = many comments on that
- More detail on storyline
- Opening news report
- More characters introduced
- What type of people will like the radio drama
- Make powerpoint look pretty
Other than that everyone thought that the genre was very clear, the story was clearly aimed at our target audience and the story was easy to follow.

Merit:
How did you take into account season or calendar events when planning your launch date?
- We planned our launch date for Friday 3rd June because of it being May half term and therefore Colleges, Universities, Sixth forms and secondary schools will be off for holiday allowing them to have the time off to listen in on our radio drama launch and leading up to it they will have the time to notice the advertising and will know when our launch date is, overall we planned our launch date at a time suitable for our target audience by taking into account calendar events for schools and this helped us decide the final launch date.
How are your timescales, launch date and budget realistic and feasible?
Our project is feasible with the budget because as this is a student project we need no budget because we have the recording equipment already available to us and we only had 6 characters in our script and we had enough voice actors within our group to do it without having to hire voice actors, in the end we just got permission from each group member so that we could use them in the radio drama. Our launch date is feasible because it is a new radio drama played on a Friday night for young adults to listen to, this would be normal for this time and date as it is a time where many young adult viewers can listen in and this means that it has the potential to be very successful, also this time slot isn't taken by any other radio drama and therefore we would be able to have it on.

Distinction:
Contingency plan
- If a voice actor is ill and can't be there for recording - Record a different day or get a new voice actor.
- If the recording room is booked already - Book another time slot or see if another room can be used instead.
- Script is not finished for the recording - Wait until it has been complete, work as a team to get it done together or record anyway and just try out different lines.
- Loud noises in the background (people talking, walking, door slams etc.) - Record another time, ask people politely if they can be quiet, put a sign up saying recording in progress or let the rooms near us know that we are recording.
Revise pre-production based on feedback
I revised my pre-production based on the script and treatment based on the feedback I got and the changes I made where;
Treatment changes:
- Wrote what year it was set in.
- Put a few more details on the main two characters plus a little description of two more characters.
- I added another few things about the storyline and what it leads on to.
- I put more information on the target audience slide about who specifically would like it and what type of person they would be.
- I also added some more pictures to each slide and a bit of colour.
Script changes:
- Corrected all grammar and spelling mistakes.
- Added a few more sound effects and parentheticals.
- Changed lines so that they where easier and more natural for people to say.
- Took out any unnecessary lines.
- Changed the characters so that instead of about 8 different voice actors it became 5 or 6 as I worked out who could play two or more characters and that it would make sense to combine two different characters as one because of how similar they are and that they are in different scenes.

d) Budget
If professional
The recording studio would cost £500 pounds per hour to be able to record dialog and sound effects inside.
|
For catering we would hire a chef to supply the cast and crew with food at lunch breaks this would cost £10 pounds and hour.
|
The actors we would hire would cost £10 pounds per hour as we do not need any big names to record dialog for any characters.
|
We would hire a cast and equipment to record with such as a microphone and director. To do this the microphone would be high quality costing 1,000 pounds and the director would be someone with experience so we would pay them £20 an hour.
|
Overall if the radio drama was profetinal we would need a budget of 5,000 pounds.
If student
No budget, equipment provided.
| |
Contingency Plan;
If we are not able to film on this day because the mikes are broken we will plan and book a room for when we know the mikes are fixed.
If we are not able to film on this day because one of our actors is absent we will record all the other actors voices and re book the room for another day to record the absent actors dialog.
