Pixar Unit 1 Power Point

Purpose, Form, Content and Meaning. What Are They?

Purpose: The purpose of Toy Story is to entertain. Pixar make the film more entertaining by adding in diverse characters for the audience to relate to. With adult and child humour in Toy Story it makes the audience want to see the film more as it is for both children and adults with bits of diversity comedy. Pixar also want to entertain there audience by telling a story of all these toys, so therefore money can be made.

Form: Toy Story's genre is animation family comedy created by Pixar. The film is all animation, its set in the present day and the film lasts 1h 21minutes. The film followed on through a franchise with the main characters in every Toy Story. Pixar didn't only create Toy Story, they are a famous animation company that have created so many more animation sensation films. Toy Story was a big budget film as it took about four years for the film to be released in cinemas.

Content: Toy Story's rating is a PG. In the film Toy Story there is different levels of comedy, adult humour e.g. when Potato head draws a lynch rope and shows it to woody. There is also child humour that entertains everyone e.g. when Slinky Dog gets tangled in his own slinky. The plot of the film is Woody, a good-hearted cowboy doll who belongs to a young boy named Andy, sees his position as Andy's favourite toy jeopardizes when his parents buy him a Buzz Lightyear action figure. Even worse, the arrogant Buzz thinks he's a real spaceman on a mission to return to his home planet. When Andy's family moves to a new house, Woody and Buzz must escape the clutches of there nightmare neighbour and reunite with Andy.

Meaning: Toy Story promotes meaning throughout the film. One deeper meaning behind Toy Story is one of companionship and friendship, this is show through all the characters working together to get out of tricky situations. This is emphasised when Woody and Buzz work together to escape from there nightmare neighbour and return to Andy (toy owner).

D1: Understanding Of Relationship Between Purpose, Form, Content and Meaning

How do they all link?: The Purpose and Content relate to one another because the purpose of Toy Story is to entertain. people will only want to watch the film if the content and plot line is interesting to them therefor it has to entertain them as well. e.g. Children like toys so with the plot line including toys helps primarily children want to see the film because they know it will entertain them because children love to play with toys.

Purpose also interlinks with Meaning in a way that Content does, it looks for what is in the film (Toy Story) and searches for deeper meanings behind it. e.g. when Woody and Buzz are stuck in the nightmare neighbours house searching for a way out tense music builds up in the background to emphasise tension while they search for away out. This relates to meaning and content because it's what is happening in the film at that time, and with the tense music it builds up better entertainment and meaning overall for the audience because it creates enigma, not know if Buzz and Woody will get out.

P4: Toy Story Distribution and Advisement video: Saw Interview
Distribution:
Toy Story is created and produced by the famous company Disney Pixar. They distribute the film through cinemas at first after that Disney Pixar branch out and create special feature DVDs and Blue-ray discs that are released after the film has been out for some time. These DVDs and Blue-ray discs extend out to Supermarket retailers, Online Shops and even Disney Pixar's website were they sell there products with extra features such as bloopers and behind the scenes with Tom Hanks. After some time online film companies such as Now TV and Sky create contracts with Disney Pixar to be allowed to show there film on there channel, this helps to both promote the channel it is on, as well as the production company Disney Pixar.

Advisement:
Before the film is realised Disney Pixar highly promote there film through anything from Trailers to Billboards. They do this around the early time of the summer holidays as this is the time when most kids and selected adults have a grave deal of time off. Promoting the film Toy Story early helps to further persuade the audience to go and see the film as the general public have more time to spare.
Billboards are also used to promote the film Toy Story as they are usually very large making it more noticeable for the audience to see.

The content on the Billboards are anything from the release date to a quote from the film, The colours used on the billboards by Pixar are usually bright vibrant colours like sky blue, they use these colours to help relate to the audience because there target audience is children they want them to relate to the colours and because light blue is a fairly multi gender colour it helps to relate to both genders captivating the audience on wanting to go and see the film. The Purpose of the advisement is to help promote the film further more persuading more people to go and see the film Toy Story, there for Pixar can make more money to fund there next film in the franchise.

Analysis of Toy Story trailer;

This poster is advertised anywhere from in shops to huge billboards. Pixar created this poster/ billboard to reach out to its audience by advertising. The use of the bright vibrant colours such as the sky blue, this blue is used to relate to passivity as that kind of blue is when the sun is out, so the colour of the blue in the background makes the image already seem happy, eye catching and appeals to young audiences.

The facial expressions of Woody and Buzz connote happiness  because when someone is smiling you can imply they are joyful relating to the audience in a positive way. This draws the audience in because it also creates enigma because you don't know what all the characters are looking at.
